“You going to Daolang’s concert again, haven’t you gone the last time?” asked my colleague. Oh yeah that’s true, this would be my fourth time in fact. Actually it doesn’t matter how many times as I know I won’t be tired of it. “Such wealthy person”, me rich? I gave a wry smile because I am only a salaried worker. One concert will cost me almost two months of my pay. Still, to me it is money well spent for doing things that makes me happy.
Just like the previous trip to Beijing (concert), I took a night bus to Shenzhen, arriving at about 5am and waited for the subway train to start moving at 6.30am. This time, the weather turned bad and for a moment I was worried whether my flight could take off on time. Luckily the rain stopped when I arrived at the airport at around 8 am. Thank God for that , I smiled to myself. First thing I did was to look for something to eat as it was going to be a long wait till my 12 noon flight. However it was announced after boarding that the flight would be delayed after all, due to unforeseen situation. When it finally took off, it was already 2pm. ‘Chengdu Here I come!’ It is noted that during this whole time, 依然丁嘉麟 called me a few times to track my trip. Here I would like to thank him for his concern, truly a great guy.
Half past 7, when I arrived at the stadium, many fans had already made their way in. Looking around, there were not many empty seats left as expected . In previous occasion, I had my hands full trying to take pictures as well as videos which ended with poor results, not to mention my enjoyment was affected too. This night, I shall sit back to enjoy the show – just Daolang and me – without the camera. At 8, 北方的天空下prelude started with Daolang slowly arising to the stage. When he appeared, I fought hard to hold back my tears. Not that this was my first time seeing him but seeing this wonderful soul before my eyes simply brought tears to my eyes. Daolang had promised to take off his signature cap and there he was without one yet still good looking as ever. He sang hits after hits and I sang along with him, waving the lited banner and singing my voice hoarse. What troubles, what worries there were were no where to be found.
Couldn’t recall at which point Yunduo appeared on stage to sing《云朵》. Somehow, I felt she truly was singing for her mother in the audience and that was the best she had ever sung. When her mother was featured on the big screen, my eyes well-up for the second time. It made me think of my own mother faraway, whom I hadn’t seen for a long time and I wondered how she is.
When after Yueyue played 《圆满》‘on her violin, Daolang proudly introduced her “this is my younger daughter Yueyue.” Soon after, he was on his knees with head bowed deeply. When he got up, his eyes brimmed with tears and his mother too was seen on the screen with tears flowing down. Gratitude, guilt was probably on his mind. Guilt because he blamed himself for a mother’s loss of a son but we believe she has forgiven you long time ago. You have also shown your filial piety double that of a son. So Daoge (Brother Dao) , no more tears, no more guilt. If it’s possible, we fans can be your mother’s children, she wouldn’t be left with just one child. Tears again filled my eyes for the third time.
Time passed so fast it seemed the 4-hr (concert) would soon be over when 《谢谢你》 came on the air. We held up our hands with the ‘thank you love you’ hand sign, and sang along wholeheartedly. It was an evening filled with warmth and affection and when Daoge made his way to the back of the stage, we knew we had seen a perfect ending – yet. Then
, “Dao Lang! Dao Lang!” Dao Lang!....” the audience still in celebratory mood screamed for more. And what a surprise,! Daolang probably broke his own rules when after some minutes, he gave in to the persistence and came back on stage!
Editor’s note: Amidst the loud cheers from guys and even ladies, the excitement escalated when Daolang came back on stage. Just like in his Weibo he deliberated with his fans, now standing in front of the stage – for songs we would like him to sing. Eventually he obliged and though still drenched in sweats he played the keyboard and sang 《吐魯番的葡萄熟了》 and 《身披彩衣的姑娘》 without so much of an effort even after 4 hours of singing. And so for 15 minutes, we were continuing having a great time karaoke-ing with him. It was delightful. It was satisfying and it was a rousing affair. Thank you for the encore Daolang! The writer featured above continued reporting on the celebration dinner that usually follows after each concert usually restricted to only fans from the Baidu Daolang Tieba
